Frog Went A Courtin, Feodor Rojankovsky

Russian born illustrator Feodor Rojankovsky (1891-1970) won a Caldecott Medal for his illustrations in Frog Went A-Courtin (1956). It's not hard to see why, his illustrations are very creative and his depictions of all the characters are just great.

This story is well over 400 years old and originated in Scotland. It was verbally handed (and sung) down and so it changed over the years. When people from Scotland and England first emigrated to America they brought the ballad with them and it spread all over the country as people moved. The tune that most of us are familiar with is only one of the many tunes for the ballad.
